Black Oak Arkansas: If An Angel Came To See You, Would You Make Her Feel At Home? (Atlantic SD-7008)

Metal Mike Saunders, Rolling Stone, 20 July 1972

BLACK OAK Arkansas have now blown off three first sides in a row, and that's not even counting their undistinguished album on Stax hack in 1969 when they were called the Knowbody Else. To bring the score up to date, side one of If An Ange! Came To See You starts out as a reversion back to the folk-rocky dogshit on the first side of their first Atlantic LP, and then ends with three would-be rockers that never get much of anything going.
