Blondie: Eat To The Beat (Chrysalis)

J.D. Considine, New York Rocker, December 1979

AMERICA, AS you might expect of any pop-oriented, media-saturated culture, has a disturbing tendency to take its sexual images literally. Lauren Hutton and Cheryl Tiegs are not usually portrayed as sexy in any specific sense; instead, their sexual attraction is used to delineate an idea of style, like Hutton's Revlon elegance or Tieg's Cover Girl healthiness. But as Tiegs' poster sales will attest, the idea of sex-as-style can easily be lost in the fascination with sex-as-sex.
