In summer 1998, and to a chorus of indie-kid disapproval, Capital Radio took over London station XFM and, preposterously, put Bob Geldof in the drive-time slot. The result: chaos, swearing, unsigned bands and a generally life-affirming whirl of wilful radio. Adrian Deevoy was there.
