Bob Marley

Richard Grabel, New York Rocker, September 1981

BOB MARLEY and the Wailers were the group that turned me, and many other Americans, on to reggae music. For that, they have a permanent place in my life, the way they have in our world and in our culture. Before Marley came along, America was well isolated from Jamaican culture. Desmond Dekker's 'Israelites' had been a radio hit (and I loved it), but that was as far as reggae had made it here.
