Bob Seger: System-Atic Steps to Julia

Jim Esposito, Zoo World, 11 September 1972

AUTHOR'S NOTE: This has to be one of the first interviews I'd ever done, one of the first stories I ever wrote. I remember interviewing Seger as he stretched across the unmade bed in some faded concrete hotel on Miami Beach. He talked about plans and ideas he had to record his upcoming album. Released early the following year it was entitled Back in '72, so it's easy enough to date. I was 20. Just starting out, I didn't know anything about anything, was really just winging it. Guess we all went through that phase, talking your way in, then wondering what the heck to do after that. Talk about wet behind the ears, actually asked what "Smoking O.P.'s" meant. Seger was 27, just appearing on the national scene. Somewhat amusing to hear how thrilled he was to see his latest release breaking the 80s on the national charts.
