Bobby Charles: Wish You Were Here

Colin Escott, Stony Plain Records, 2001

IT'S BOBBY CHARLES'S personal preference to maintain a low profile. He has famous friends who get twitchy when they're out of the limelight for so much as a day. They call every now and again, and stop by when they're in Louisiana. The mailman brings Bobby checks for his songs. It can be a marginal existence sometimes, but that's the way he wants it. He has written a few of the hardy perennials of rock music ('See You Later, Alligator', 'Walkin' to New Orleans', 'But I Do', 'The Jealous Kind' and 'Before I Grow Too Old') but he's not out there performing them or even trying to persuade other people to cut them.
