Bomb The Bass: Into The Dragon (Rhythm King)

Push, Melody Maker, 15 October 1988

IT'S IMPOSSIBLE to know where to begin with Bomb The Bass. Tim Simenon, part joker, part scientist, part funny, furry hat, doesn't know either, even though he's supposed to be the man at the controls. Nor does he have the faintest idea of where to end. And so Into The Dragon goes on and on with no gaps between the tracks and a million guests, samples and oddball effects spun in and allowed half a bow before being dragged into the depths of the mix. It's extraordinarily busy and delightfully dizzy. Some of the sounds seem to be in such a hurry that they overtake themselves for the third time on the second bend the first time around.
