Cat Stevens: Foreigner
Ken Barnes, Phonograph Record, October 1973
IN ANY NORMAL TIME, Cat Stevens would be nothing more than an occasionally annoying inconsequentiality; but in an appalling era of innumerable idiot-savant singer/songwriters elevated to commercial godhead, he's a major irritant. The idea of an artist of Stevens' essential vapidity being idolized by millions is an esthetic atrocity, as is the automatic attention inevitably accorded to his overblown output (including this reluctant review).
