Chaka Khan: What Cha' Gonna Do for Me (Warner Bros.) **

Laura Fissinger, Rolling Stone, 6 August 1981

WHAT CHA' Gonna Do for Me is a textbook example of how to make incredibly pedestrian "fusion" music and pass it off as jazz for the terminally tasteful listener. The record's worth talking about, albeit briefly, because Chaka Khan could have beensomething much more than just another dime-a-dozen tony chick singer.
