Contract Breakers

Mark Sinker, The Wire, June 1996

2005 note: Savage Pencil did a nice illustration for this: John and Yoko hilariously naked, among other excellent things. It also elicited an angry postcard from world-class Zappafan and point-misser Ben Watson: "If you’re so clever how come you’re not rich?" was its haha daggerlike first thrust, and it went on to accuse me (on the strength of the admittedly rubbishy phrase "useful new alliances") of being a Eurocommunist. I still think the only worthwhile co-creator FZ allowed near himself in the era of Beverly Hills punk was his daughter, by then worth about fifty of her tiresome dad (I actually rather admire FZ’s old-skool politics of family, in a terrible sea of adolescent romantic posturing, but it’s not like he ever dared make an issue of this...)
