Critic's Choice: The Five Blind Boys of Alabama
Kirk Silsbee, Los Angeles Reader, 13 January 1989
THREE YEARS AGO, the extraordinary musical The Gospel at Colonus stormed Broadway. It brilliantly reimagined the Sophocles tragedy Oedipus at Colonus by telling the story through a cavalcade of black gospel music. The narrative was set in a soul-shaking church service led by a minster played by former L.A.C.C. drama student Morgan Freeman.
