Cropper: Into The Spotlight

POP FANS shouldn't have much difficulty in identifying Wilson Pickett with 'Midnight Hour' or Otis Redding with 'Dock of the Bay' but mention the name of Steve Cropper and they're liable to draw a blank. The veteran guitarist-songwriter-producer, who co-wrote both songs and a host of other '60s soul classics, has been quite content to play a behind-the-scenes role until the recent release of his first MCA album, Playin' My Thang.
