DESPITE DAVID Byrne's beaver-like activities over the last few years, his persona and his work have gradually been losing much of their old allure. Perhaps his role as the thinking person's archetypal rock star has simply been over-exposed; perhaps he has given too many television interviews in which he's said "Gee! I don't know!" and cocked his head.
