LOS ANGELES folkies fondly remember David Lindley as the perennial winner of the Topanga banjo-fiddle contest. Some rock fans, among them Led Zeppelin's Jimmy Page and Jethro Tull's Ian Anderson, speak of Lindley's '60s band Kaleidoscope in reverent tones. But the 70s pop audience knows him chiefly as Jackson Browne's ever-present right-hand man. (He was with Browne Saturday night at the Inglewood Forum.)
