De La Soul: Bar Cuba, Macclesfield

As part of a British mini-tour ahead of an album set for September, America’s most innovative hip hop outfit came to a small, friendly club in Macclesfield on sabbath. Walking into an already packed, monsoon-hot Bar Cuba at 5pm on a Sunday afternoon evoked a feeling of enforced reorientation that some of us old skool heads hadn’t felt since seeking out soul all-dayers in provincial leisure centres in the mid-‘80s.
