Dennis Bovell: Heaven, London

Mick Brown, The Guardian, 30 March 1983

FOR A MAN who is both producer, writer, performer and engineer, Dennis Bovell's career progresses at a frustrating and slow pace. As producer he seems confined to exotic reggae records by Michael Smith or Linton Kwesi Johnson, and rock curios which few hear or buy. After Brain Damage, his performing career is at a standstill. No records, and sporadic live appearances. Given the calibre, with his ad hoc seven-piece band, Bovell's attempts to become anonymous seem mystifying.
