Diamanda Galás: Apocalypse Now
Gillian G. Gaar, The Rocket, October 1993
THE WITCH has long symbolized the end result of female power left unchecked, a power that can grow into a rage capable of challenging, and ultimately toppling the patriarchal order itself. Accordingly, any woman with a gripe against male-dominated society can be tagged with the feared label — as Pat Robertson did last year when he denounced a proposed equal rights amendment to the Iowa State Constitution by saying it was part of a "feminist agenda" that would encourage women to "practice witchcraft" — among other evils.
