Donovan: Royal Festival Hall, London
Lon Goddard, Record Mirror, 13 December 1969
EVENINGS WITH Donovan just aren't the same any more. In the days of yore, there were always stage attempts to shroud Donovan in the mystery and majesty of his person by presenting him in lavish costumes, having him sing his songs and hustling him off. The songs were good, his voice was fine and the orchestration was well done, but missing was that down to earth connection between the singer and his audience. There was that 'in the presence of a star' syndrome to be overcome.
