Erasure: Westminster Central Hall, London

Betty Page, Record Mirror, 25 April 1987

IT WAS A night full of juicy contradictions. Fancy having a pop show in a Methodist hall next to a statue of John Wesley! Fancy having a pop show where fans supped apple juice, nibbled sarnies and licked ice cream! Fancy having a support band (I Start Counting) who played one-finger synth tunes which were time-warped in 1980! Fancy having an audience comprising young Sharons, skinheads pretending to look butch, casuals and kids whose older sisters were New Romantics, all coming to watch a couple of skinny boys!
