Faith Hill: Redrawing Country's Borders

IN 1999, THE Mississippi-born country singer Faith Hill released 'Breathe', and it sold more than eight million copies. Country music purists were put off by it. Hey, weren't there some pop and soul songs on that album? Now she's released Cry, and Nashville's defenders of the faith are even more worked up. Now she's abandoned tradition altogether, they say.
