Frank Sinatra: Royal Festival Hall, London

Max Jones, Melody Maker, 16 September 1978

"SINATRA IS Sinatra, and this is perfect," someone once wrote about one of his movies. That sentence would, I imagine, sum up the feelings of most of the audience at Monday night's opening of the Royal Festival Hall Sinatra season. It was predominantly a middle-aged Rolls Royce crowd, and they lapped up everything he put down with a kind of undiscriminating, well-bred enthusiasm which fell just short of fervour but must still have been balm to the veteran singer's soul.
