Gael Force: Julie Fowlis

David Burke, R2/Rock'n'Reel, January 2008

JULIE FOWLIS spends a lot of time singing to people who, on the whole, haven't got a clue what she's singing about. But it makes no difference – they love her and her songs anyway. The native of North Uist in the Outer Hebrides has, in the past couple of years, placed the Gaelic language at the forefront of our consciousness with her solo albums, Mar a Tha Mo Chridhe (As My Heart Is) and Cuilidh (variously defined as treasury, sanctuary, retreat or secret hiding place).
