FATHER OF hip–hop, granddaddy of rap, articulate polemicist and early pioneer of the fusion of black politics with poetry and music, Gil Scott–Heron has been a major influence on black – and white – artists since the late 1960s. In February 2010, Canongate is re–publishing some of his seminal written works, notably The Vulture and The Nigger Factory.
