Grateful Dead: Wake Of The Flood (Grateful Dead Records GD-01)

Arthur Levy, Zoo World, 20 December 1973

OWING TO THE rather blatant corporate eccentricities of American record companies the Grateful Dead have formed their own label, following a stormy six years with Warner Bros./Reprise that yielded 9 albums on that label (including 6 single albums, 2 doubles, 1 triple) and a pair of albums on the Sunflower label recorded in the "old days," whose value has never been dealt with to any serious extent — yet those records exist, and have existed alongside of the "authorized" recordings for at least half of those six years. The question now becomes: How do the rest of the Grateful Dead's albums fit in alongside of Wake Of The Flood, their first release on their own independently-distributed label?
