Halsey: Eventim Apollo, London, W6

DESPITE UNRELENTING RAIN, fans had queued outside the Hammersmith Apollo since the morning for the first of Halsey’s two sold-out shows at the west London venue. Their dedication was as obvious inside. The Apollo sizzled with excitement even before the New Jersey singer appeared atop five huge video-screen steps. For 90 minutes the crowd — teenagers and twentysomethings, overwhelmingly female — howled back every lyric as though their lives depended on it.
