THE NAME, of course, is one of pop's great double entendres. As well as carrying the sense of overloaded silicon circuitry, "Hot Chip" — like "Led Zeppelin" — is also a self-deprecating and pessimistic prediction regarding their own probable career prospects: they would surely be, the gag goes, "dropped like a hot chip".
