Hot Tuna: First Pull Up, Then Pull Down (RCA)

Jonh Ingham, Phonograph Record, September 1971

I FIRST HEARD Hot Tuna at a free concert in late 1969. It consisted of Jack and Jorma on guitars, Joey Covington on drums (Spencer was still with the Airplane), and Marty Balin singing; the essence of the Airplane. They rocked like a motherfucker. Consequently, the first Hot Tuna album was a disappointment. It was okay as far as it went, but it lacked the noise and excitement of the concert. So I started waiting for the next album, the electric one.
