THE PATRONAGE OF RICK RUBIN is considered a Very Big Deal within the US music industry. Aged 21, in 1984, this white heavy rock fan from Lido Beach, New York, co-founded Def Jam, the label that brought hip-hop into the mainstream. With Def Jam, he produced Public Enemy and the Beastie Boys, and spliced Aerosmith and Run-DMC to create the first rap-rock crossover hit, 'Walk This Way'.
