BEAT EXCLUSIVE: A Behind The Scenes Story Of Beatles' Sgt. Pepper

Tony Barrow, KRLA Beat, 3 June 1967

LONDON — On the first day of February THE BEATLES began to record a song called 'SGT. PEPPER'S LONELY HEARTS CLUB BAND'. Paul had contributed the basic ideas for the number so Paul was assigned to handle the main vocal action — with the others joining him for the chorus segments. To add instrumental effect an actual "Lonely Hearts Club Band" was formed — for one time only! It consisted of four horn players, all true and tried session musicians.
