Innes's Humor Doesn't Compromise His Rock

Jim Sullivan, The Boston Globe, 9 October 2001

CAMBRIDGE – Neil Innes, a bald man sporting a gray, Beatles-like wig, took the stage at the House of Blues Sunday night. The members of the ace alt-rock band Yo La Tengo – guitarist Ira Kaplan, bassist James McNew, and drummer Georgia Hubley – huddled as a group to his left, playing pennywhistles and kazoos. Innes, playing acoustic guitar, kicked off a joyous little ditty called 'I'm the Urban Spaceman', a song he called "a medley of hit", noting that "that concludes the showbiz segment".
