As the singer-songwriter battled his way home through the footfall of Central Park West, in Manhattan, the young man at his side continued to babble away with unnerving determination. At the entrance to his apartment building, half a block north of 73rd Street, Taylor cast a look at a waiting doorman that said, "This person is not my guest".
