J.J. Cale: The Real Slowhand

Sylvie Simmons, MOJO, September 2009

IT'S A SUNNY morning in San Francisco but the hotel conference room is dark, empty except for an enormous table circled by chairs. One of them is occupied by a lean, grizzled 70-year-old. He's dressed like he was on-stage last night, like a man who's just been fixing the car. He says he likes fixing things; that he always brings a toolkit on the road with him in case the toilet in his hotel room runs. He offers to come by later and work on MOJO's house.
