HAVING BEEN brought up on rock & roll, it took me a while to discover that country music had its good points. (At the very least, it boasts some great song titles. Have you heard the 1976 hit, 'Kick Me, Jesus, Through the Goalposts of Life'?) And I'm still a little wary of new artists who, riding the waves of popularity created by such rock-influenced country artists as Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, and Billy Swan, begin their albums with clichés like:
