John Lee Hooker: Hammersmith Odeon, London

Jon Wilde, Melody Maker, 16 July 1988

EVERYONE SHOULD have three favourite bluesmen. It should be made compulsory. Like not wearing clothes in Central London. Or scraping the sides of Porches with threepenny bits. Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters, Howling Wolf. I could quite happily leave it there. I could walk through the night with that triumvirate. I would have the whole world in my jug. They take it to the edge. That's about it, really.
