Johnny Cash at San Quentin was my idea

Geoffrey Cannon, unpublished, 2004

2018 note: Steve Turner emailed me in 2004 and said he was working on the official biography of Johnny Cash, and had been told that Johnny Cash at San Quentin – the Granada television film, and so the smash hit album taken from the film soundtrack, John's one and only #1 album in the US charts in his lifetime – was my idea. Was it? Yes, I said. So I wrote him this story, now updated. An extract is in Turner's The Man Called Cash:The Life, Love and Faith of an American Legend (Bloomsbury, 2005).
