IT WAS THE STUFF from which legends are carved: an office, a studio no larger than a motel room crammed with organs, pianos and a dilapidated drum kit, all located in the far corner of a faded pink warehouse in the Cuban section of Hialeah, Florida; and a homemade eight-track, in use 20 hours a day, that cracked and popped when lightning flashed outside.
