"Marty Wilde was managed by Larry Parnes – 'They don't call me Parnes, shillings and pence for nothing' – who entered rock as Tommy Steele's co-manager with John Kennedy. Kennedy only wanted one star, Parnes wanted a constellation, 'the Parnes stable of stars': Marty Wilde, Billy Fury, Dickie Pride, Vince Eager (all of whom were placed in the NME's popularity poll in 1959 along with Tommy Steele) and others.
