Laurel Aitken, Spartacus: The Venue, London

Phil Sutcliffe, Sounds, 12 April 1980

THIS CONCERT was billed as a comeback but it proved to be a travesty. Poor old Laurel Aitken. He was the original ska king back in the early '60s (the publicity handouts confirmed by E Fuller). Now he's been adopted by Secret Affair through their I Spy label which in turn brings the full might of Arista/Ariola behind him — in theory. Instead what they all managed to contrive between them was a cock-up.
