Letter from Britain: Johnny Too Bad's Kinky Reggae

Jonh Ingham, Creem, September 1975

THEY SAY that reggae is breaking into America via discos. It would be nice to think so, because if ever a music deserved to gain global popularity it's reggae. Discovering reggae is like attaining a new level of consciousness: suddenly there's a whole new vista of music previously unimagined, and best of all even the laziest can succumb to it. An intensely rhythmic music harbouring a psychotic obsession with bass, drawing originally from New Orleans but now soul as well as local observations, and if we are to be vulgar, unashamedly stoned music for stoned people.
