Lewis Taylor: Jazz Cafe, London

David Stubbs, Melody Maker, 14 September 1996

OH DEAR. Mick Talbot's here. Perhaps as an innocent punter, perhaps as an Emissary from Pope Paul Weller. My only fleeting concern with "white soul sensation" Lewis Taylor is that he might inadvertently be sucked into the worthy maw of Radio Woking/Talking Loud mafiosi, sucked in and obliterated like the inferior likes of, say, Omar before him, another "curator" on a short-term contract to keep a certain notion of "soul" buffed to a nice, high shine.
