Link Wray

John Tobler, ZigZag, 1971

FOR ELDERLY rockers like me, it’s pretty incredible to be able to talk to those who were around at the start of their musical interests. I got to talk with Don Everly, which was fantastic because I actually sat in the same room as him for an hour or so; it wasn’t quite so good with Link Wray (another of my early heros as composer and performer of the legendary ‘Rumble’) due to the vagaries of the transatlantic telephone system which buggered up my carefully prepared tape recording plans.
