THESE DAYS, PREPARING for a Lou Reed interview is like joining the Civil Service. First, the specially run-off CD of the new album, Magic And Loss, arrives and then, a few days later, the typed lyrics of the 13 songs. On each occasion, Reed's record label anxiously point out that both CD and lyrics are to be studied with care: "He wants you to have heard it on CD and really read the words."
