"SNOW COVERS the street lamps and the windowsills," sang the alt.country queen on 2003's 'Minneapolis'. When Uncut calls her in that same city on her US tour, it's not that wintry. "Though it's cold," she says. "And I forgot to bring a scarf." Williams, 55, has been making records for decades, earning a rep as a songwriters' songwriter. "I've never fit in," she cackles. "I once sent a demo to Sony in L.A., who said it was too country, so they sent it to Sony in Nashville, who said it was too rock. I just thought: Fuck you, I'm moving on..."'
