Maureen Tucker: Life in Exile After Abdication (50 Skidillion Watts)
Rob Tannenbaum, Rolling Stone, 5 October 1989
MAUREEN TUCKER was the Ringo Starr of the Velvet Underground — an unschooled drummer whose hard, unadorned, idiosyncratic style was an irreplaceable element of the band's musical signature and who ignored the band's power struggles. Moe's solo career, like Ringo's, has been fitful — since the Velvets' third album, in 1969, she has recorded only Playin' Possum, released in 1982, and the slight EP MoeJadKateBarry, released in 1986. With Life in Exile After Abdication, Tucker has made an excellent album with a little help from her friends.
