IF ANYONE was still sceptical about the mainstream of rap, a quick glance at MC Hammer's considerable commercial achievements will soon put them right. His current album, Please Hammer Don't Hurt 'Em, has sold over 12 million copies, which puts it right up there with the George Michaels and Michael Jacksons of the music world. He also recently scooped up five gongs at the American Music Awards, which firmly established the young man in the big trousers as a national celebrity.
