MC5, Matthew's Southern Comfort, Humble Pie, May Blitz: The Roundhouse, London

Michael Watts, Melody Maker, 8 August 1970

ON THE surface it seemed crazy — 1,500 kids packed into a hot stuffy old engine shed, while outside the temperature was in the seventies. The great thing about London's Roundhouse, though, is that, probably, more than any other venue in the country, it captures the spirit of rock music at its most unaffected, and in its most involved state. That is its attraction for audiences and the reason why groups are prepared to play for as little as a tenner.
