ONE IS SO accustomed to the sexual boastfulness of male rock and soul singers that it comes as an instructive change to witness the same pose enacted by a woman. Utterly eschewing the submissiveness of a Diana Ross or the downtrodden despair of an Aretha Franklin, Millie Jackson is possibly the first since Ma Rainey and the early classic blues singers to present herself as a rapacious sexual conqueror.
