IF ITS ILLUSTRIOUS predecessor – 2001's visionary soft-porn psychedelic soul masterpiece In Search of... – was anything to go by, the release of a new N*E*R*D album is not so much a clear-cut event, as the beginning of a long and complex process: a process whereby everyone (not least the artists themselves) gradually catches up with where Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo's heads were at when their saucy sonic mind-probe first hit mixing-desk paydirt.
