Nirvana, Butthole Surfers, Chokebore: The Great Western Forum, Inglewood CA

"UH, DO you like to rock?" Kurt Cobain asked the audience in a wimpy voice and slack-kneed stance. His chatty, I'm-one-of-you-guys, ongoing banter with the audience defined this benefit for Fairness and Accuracy in Reporting (FAIR). Openers Chokebore and the Butthole Surfers set off Nirvana's shifty intensity, though Cobain at times seemed to struggle with the immensity of the venue and its squirming, impatient, flannel-wrapped crowd. A representative at Nirvana's label says a tiff between Tad Doyle and Courtney love led to the cancellation of Tad, originally scheduled to open this show
