Peter Murphy: Town & Country Club, London

Simon Price, Melody Maker, 26 May 1990

IT'S WHEN I burst out laughing and everyone looks at me like I'm insane that I realise what a tragic, inopportune night this is. Just as a return to 1981 values — and to unsmiling "artiness" — is in the air (Cranes being the finest example), just as I was about to begin a valiant crusade to establish Bauhaus as the most important band of the early Eighties, Peter Murphy returns from the dead and spoils it all.
